Did you know that 94 percent of all life on Earth is found in the oceans? That half of the oxygen you breathe comes from the ocean? The ocean is not just a beautiful horizon, it is the heart of our planet. Without that heart, no life would exist on Earth. Yet the oceans remain our least explored environment. It’s as if we’re standing at the shoreline, staring out at a universe we barely know anything about.
Voice of the Ocean wants to change that. They want to give the ocean a voice by collecting data, conducting research and building Northern Europe's largest digital ocean knowledge bank. They believe in the power of science, but also in the power of storytelling. That’s why they share knowledge, through a marine archive and through educational materials, books, documentaries, and film projects like Ocean Dreams.
Voice of the Ocean is committed to the belief that when we understand the ocean, we also care about it. And what we care about, we protect.
In 2025, Latour entered a partnership with Voice of the Ocean by contributing to the film project Ocean Dreams – Stories of Hope.
“It aligns perfectly with Latour’s long-term vision and values to support Voice of the Ocean’s important work for the ocean, offering our generation and the next the opportunity to make informed decisions about the ocean,” says Ida von Ekensteen, responsible for the collaboration at Latour.
Since its founding in 2019, Voice of the Ocean has already seen change: ocean issues have been integrated into schools, research projects continue to reveal new insights, and interest in the sea is growing.
Voice of the Ocean is based in Sweden but now sees a growing need for knowledge-building activities in the countries around the Baltic Sea and internationally. This is where actors like Voice of the Ocean are needed.
“With Latour’s support, we can broaden the reach of our important work, and we are very grateful for that,” says Sanna Thimmig Johansen, CEO of the Voice of the Ocean Foundation.
Together, we make a difference!
